This mini chunky bee is so cute! It is relatively quick and easy to make, and is super popular. The only part that needs sewing on is the wings. I recommend making the wings first, and then attaching them before closing the bee to make it a bit easier to secure them and tie in the ends. The pattern is worked in a round so need to slip stitch at the end of reach row
Materials:
Yarn: Paintbox Chenille, or other plush yarn, in black, orange and white.
5.5mm needle
Sewing needle
8mm safety eyes
Scrap black yarn for embroidery (optional)
Abbreviations:
Sc = Single Crochet
Hdc = Half double crochet
Dc = Double Crochet
Inc = Two sc in the next stitch
Dec = One sc over the next two stitches.
Wings:
White yarn
1. Ch2. (Sc, Hdc, Dcx2, Hdc, sc) in 2nd chain from the hook. FO
Make two and sew them together.
Bee:
Begin with orange yarn.
1. Ch2 (or magic ring). 6sc (6sc)
2. Incx6 (12sc)
3. (sc, inc) x6 (18sc)
4. (scx2, inc) x 6 (24sc). Change to black on the final stitch.
5 -6. Sc around (24sc, two rows) Change to orange on the final stitch of row 5.
7-8 Sc around (24sc, two rows). Change to black on the final stitch of row 8
9. Sc around (24sc)
If you are adding the wings before closing, attach now on rows 6-7 and leave the ends in the body. Add safety eyes between round 2 and 3
10. (Sc x 2, Dec) x6 (18sc). Change to orange on the final stitch. FO black.
11. (Sc, Dec) x6 (12sc)
12. Decx6 (6sc).
Thread yarn through front loops of the remaining six stitches and pull tight to close hold. Hide the yarn tail inside the bee.
